New hub for Scotland as inaugural Istanbul flight begins

Scotland football legend Dennis Law dropped in to welcome Turkish Airlines to Edinburgh Airport yesterday as it received its inaugural flight linking the Scottish Capital with the iconic Turkish city of Istanbul. The new service will run four times a week with Turkish Airlines confident that the frequency will quickly change to daily flights given the popularity of Istanbul as a destination and transport hub.

As well as creating a direct link between Scotland and Turkey, this route also offers connectivity to a range of global destinations including Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, Bangkok, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Delhi, Mumbai, Tel Aviv, Dubai, Narita and Osaka.

Armed Forces Day saw 480 participants join together to yomp over 36million steps across 18,000 miles to complete the Alliance Trust Cateran Yomp. Smashing the fundraising target and raising over £250,000 for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and the Prince’s Trust Youth Business Scotland, the Yomp challenged walkers of all abilities to go for bronze (22 miles), silver (36.5 miles) or gold (52 miles) in a survival of the fittest set against a stunning Perthshire backdrop. Yomping home in first place, shaving three hours off the 2011 record, a team from Alliance Trust, ‘The Good, the Mad and the Elderly’ completed gold in 11 hours 34 minutes, passing through Blairgowrie, Kirkmichael, Spittal of Glenshee and Kirkton of Glenisla.

Next year’s Alliance Trust Cateran Yomp will take place on 15 – 16 June 2013
